Cruise on the lake aboard the vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw that travels down Lake Wakatipu to Walter Park High Country Peak farm. An easy way to see the view is to take the skyline gondola where you will also find the luge for those seeking a few thrills and Kiwi Haka. Kiwis can be seen at the Kiwi and Birdlife park in the city centre. Skippers Canyon is a very twisting and dangerous road but full of Queenstown Heritage. Kawarau Gorge is the place to find gold and try your hand at gold panning at the Gold Fields Mining Centre.
Queenstown is also New Zealand’s capital for adventure attractions. Take a leap at any of Queenstown’s four bungee sites, especially at the 43m high Kawarau Suspension Bridge. Then there’s rock climbing, hot air ballooning, and for the not-so-adventurous outdoor types, hiking – there are several beautiful, internationally renowned hiking routes in the Queenstown area.
