The SKYCITY Queenstown Casino is located on Beach Street, at the heart of Queenstown, and offers its customers an evening of exciting gaming, delicious food and live entertainment. We popped in on one cold Saturday night and were welcomed by the warm sight of the smartly dressed croupiers and the selection of 8 gaming tables offering roulette and blackjack, mini-baccarat, Caribbean stud poker and Texas hold-em. There is, in addition to the regular gaming area, an additional VIP room, open by special appointment, called the Summit Room. This is where the really big money comes into play: the room for the high rollers. Regular customers who are just there for a small gamble and a bit of entertainment would not be catered for here! On our visit, my friends and I played blackjack and roulette for a couple of hours, winning a little and then losing a little more, enjoying the ambience, which was upbeat without being loud, and comfortably friendly for the novice gambler. We then made our way to the Wild Thyme restaurant.
The food in Wild Thyme was impressive, offering some sublime seafood dishes. The restaurant serves an extensive a al carte menu from midday until late, so it is great for lunch or dinner. As it was a Saturday night, there was full live entertainment on offer (as there is every weekend) and we were lucky enough to catch some vintage jazz for free! We could not have asked for a better way to finish our evening. It was just a shame I chose to lose a little more money by playing my ‘lucky’ numbers on roulette before heading back to our hotel! |
