You have heard about this wonderful place and now you want to go there – well fortunately for you getting to Queenstown is easy provided you know where New Zealand is (No we are not a state in Australia).
Queenstown has an international airport that has a number of flights going in and out regularly. At the time of writing Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways both make international flights into Queenstown as well as domestic flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Pacific Blue runs trips from Sydney to Queenstown twice a week and domestic flights come in daily from the major centres in New Zealand.
Once you fly into Queenstown Airport you are looking at a 10km drive into the township itself. You can take a taxi, or rent a car from one of the many car hire places at the airport terminal.
If you are driving to Queenstown it will take you roughly 6 hours from Christchurch – but remember winter roads are often subject to closures especially across the Southern Alps so check the driving conditions before you leave Christchurch. Also keep in mind that petrol stations are not that prevalent on country roads, so if you are planning a long trip make sure that you have a full tank of gas.
